Taking Augmentin For Head Injury. Have Fever, Headache, Foul Smelling Discharge. Should I Be Worried?
Hi , I recently had a accident on a water slide where my 10 year old daughters teeth went into the back of my head. I went to IHC and got 7 staples put in the wound. The doc didn't really tell me anything besides to put antibiotic ointment on it and come back in 7 days to have them removed. He also prescribed me augmentin 875-125 mg . I have been getting a fever(102) since then and my head hurts. Also it has been discharging a little and it really smells horrible. Should I be worried?
Hi thanks for your question.
Fever, pain in head and foul smelling discharge after head trauma should not be taken lightly.More over the injury you got is by human teeth which is very dangerous,as there are millions of bacteria in mouth.Your wound is very much infected and the infection is resistant to antibiotic your taking.Consult a general surgeon who may examine you may advice you some investigation if need.He may take swab from discharge for culture sensitivity.
Change of dressing is urgently required.
Hope this answers your question.
