Taking Medication For High Blood Pressure And Amitriptyline For Fibromyalgia. What Is The Lump On Head?

Hello, I am a 67 year old female and a couple of hours ago a hard lump appeared on the back of my head, it was about the size of a hazel nut and very painful to touch. I have not banged my head or fallen so was curious as to why it had suddenly appeared. About an hour later it had gone but another appeared on the right side of my head about 2 inches above the ear and was more painful that the last one. I hadn t moved from the sofa so there is seemingly no explanation. It is still there and is becoming more painful to touch. I phoned my doctor and he said the condition defied explanation and to take Paracetomol for the pain. I was not happy with this reply. I take medication for high blood pressure and Amytriptiline for Fibromyalgia but never had any reaction. Can you help please?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

This lump can be a lymph node or sebaceus cyst. It is not possible for any lump to appear and disappear just in few hours. So most likely the lump has moved a little bit or you missed it when checking again. Only allergic blain can appear such quickly but it is usually soft and painless.
The best way to verify what you are dealing with is to have soft tissues ultrasound of this area. In case of sebaceus cyst, it should be removed.
If it is a lymph node and is enlarged, biopsy should be done.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
