Taking Prednisone For Swelling In Ankles, Abdomen, Face. Have Shortness Of Breath. Rapid Weight Gain
Hello, I have recently been taking prednisone, started on 6 pills /day. I have been reducing med. by 1 a week, now down to 3/day. I am suffering from extreme sweeling of ankles abdomen, and face. My concern is that it IS pitted adema. I have shortness of breath. was prescribed this med due to diagnosed COPD. I am tired , larthargic and very heavy. I also have a sacral implant in my bladder. I have NEVER been a big person, I was very fit and slim. Now I have gained so much weight in little time that I don t know who is in the mirror. Please help me.
Prednisolone can cause moderate fluid retention but not in these proportions that you have described. excessive weight gain in a short while with pitting oedema always raises the concerns about liver, hear oor kidney problems. The best thing would be to get these organs investigated appropriately.
For the men time, limiting salt intake, trying some water pills, etc can offer mild relief while you get to hook up with your doctor and get this problem looked into.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more clarifications if need be. Dr. Dittah, MD
