Taking Sulfamtehoxazole/trimethorprim And Olmetec ,does It Cause Any Side Effect ?
Hi Doctor I was prescribed sulfamtehoxazole/trimethoprim for urnine infection and I also take OLMETEC will there be any interactions I cannot stop the olmetec and I know to get rid of the urine infection I have to take the medication .The doctor said I have escherichia coli what do you suggest?
Hello Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been taking (Olmetec) anti hypertensive medication to keep your BP under control and has been prescribed combination of Sulphamethoxazole and Trimethoprim for UTI (E-Coli infection).
Both these drugs do not have any interaction and can be taken simultaneously .
Please get your routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.
Please take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefotaxime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily.and later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.
Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.
Ensure to drink more water. To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.
