Ulcerative Colitis(UC) has a genetical basis as it tends to run in families. The drug Sulphasalazine is preferred to initiate the therapy apart from other drugs.Bilogical immunomodulators like Infliximab are also used successfully.Since UC tends to affect other organs including skin, joints and eye,it would be prudent to get other symptoms checked as and when they occur.Wysolone is used as a stop gap therapy and long term use is generally avoided due to side effects.Elevated blood sugar can lead to blurred vision ,skin changes due to folliculitis/acne may also occur while on steroids.
