Tearing Sensation In Left Shoulder, Pain While Lying Down

I have an intermittent “tearing” sensation under my left shoulder blade, close to the spine. It subsides when I am lying down. If I look down, the pain intensifies greatly. The pain also increases when I look up or to the left; not as much as looking down, but a definite increase. There is little or no increase to the pain when I look to the right. This has been occurring since Thursday evening (3.5 days). This had happened previously, about a year ago. The same symptoms lasted for about 6 weeks and then went away during a business trip. Last year I saw my doctor who referred me to a chiropractor; I saw the chiropractor for about 3 weeks at which point she wanted x-rays. I had a business trip to take, so I was unable to get the x-rays, but the pain went away completely so I didn’t bother. I am beginning to think it is a slipped disk or something similar. Please advise.

OBGYN Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal's  Response
Hello.

Thanks for writing to us.
From your symptoms it seems to be due to tendonitis of shoulder joint or periarthritis. A musce sprain is also a likely cause. Getting an MRI of the affected area will be helpful.
Treatment involves pain killers, muscle relaxants, hot fomentation and regular physiotherapy after acute pain subsides. You can consult your orthopedician for proper management.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.

Regards,
