Hello and welcome to HCM,
At your age, blood in stools occurs due to many reasons like bacterial infection, solitary rectal ulcer,
inflammatory bowel disease, small intestinal
ischemia, mesenteric
artery occlusion, intussuseption to name a few causes.
You need to
consult a gastroenterologist.
A stool- routine examination and culture is required to look for any evidence of infection.
In the absence of infection, a
colonoscopy is needed.
This investigation involves examining the large intestine.
Any abnormal area is sampled or biopsied.
The tissue from that area is seen under the microscope. Solitary rectal ulcer can be diagnosed by this investigation.
The other investigations include barium study in which a contrast substance is introduced into the large intestine to look for any abnormality.
So, investigations have to be done to diagnose the problem.
management can be planned only after the correct diagnosis is made.
Thanks and take care
