Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My husband has some tender, swollen skin on the knuckle of the fourth finger on his right hand . The joint is not swollen or tender, just the skin over the knuckle. He is a musician and plays guitar quite often, but this has not happened previously. Any suggestion or advice you may be able to give would be appreciated. Thank you, Linda Morris YYYY@YYYY
Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. R K Singh's Response
Good Morning Linda,
Symptoms of your husband problem are more in favour of infection and second possibility is of raised uric acid. Hence he should first go for blood test ie TLC, DLC, ESR, CRP & Serum Uric acid. If total white blood cell count & neutrophil counts are raised, Then he should start Broad Spectrum Antibiotics in consultation with your family physician. If Counts are normal & Uric acid is raised then he should be given allopeurinol (Zyloric) 100 mg thrice a day along with anti inflammatory & alkaliser for 3 days. You should not neglect this & take medical help at your earliest.
Wishing him early recovery.
