Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic, I am sorry that your father is ill

Throat cancer can involve different aspects of the throat such as the larynx, pharynx or tonsils. The prognosis will vary according to the stage of the disease.
Staging a cancer means determining the extent of the cancer in the body.A cancer is staged based on the size of the tumor, any spread to lymph nodes, any distant spread.
Based on these factors, your dad's doctor will be able to give you the survival rate.

In terms of spending time together, you could talk to him. He may not be able to reply verbally depending on the extent of any surgery and the tumor , but he may be able to type or write a response.
Spend some time thinking of questions that you would like to ask him, write them down and ask. Ask about anything related to the present or to your future, what does he want for you? Think of questions you would want to ask in 5 or 10 year, if you can.
If possible record the answers so that you can review them later,\.
You go for walks, he may be in a wheel chair or still ambulatory, either way it is an opportunity for you to spend some time together.

I hope this helps and I wish you and your father the best
