Throbbing Pain In Knees, Ankles. X-ray Showed Mild Arthritis. History Of Being Detected Tendinitis. Guide

I was awakened this morning by severe toothache-like throbbing in both knees and could barely walk. Later, the pain radiated in my ankles. This has happened a few years ago and they told me it was tendinitis. I went to urgent care for relief where they did xrays. They said the xrays looked fine with the exception of possibly a little arthritis in my right knee. Currently, there is a dull ache only in my right knee. I did nothing differently over the past few days. Puzzled as to where the pain came from all of a sudden.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

The knee joints are made of bones, cartilage and ligaments which hold the joint in place to allow locomotion. In osteoarthritis, there is erosive changes at the cartilages of the bones. These areas are richly supplied by nerves and hence you are having the slight pain. It is due to wear and tear of the joint. Dull ache may be present with osteoarthritis of the knee joint.

Hope this helps
