Tightness In Chest, Irregular Heart Beat And Difficulty In Breathing. What Could Be The Cause?

Hi my name s kasandra and I m 16. I ve lived a healthy life and everything but recently, my chest would begin to tighten and my heart will start to beat irregularly and i can t breath without it hurting. This has been going on for a week and some things can trigger it: exercising, a fog machine did, cold weather, & even when I laugh. What could be the cause of this?

Hello,
It is important that you get yourself checked by a physician to ensure you are not developing asthma. Asthma is narrowing of the airways preventing gas exchange and can be allergic or non-allergic.

Allergic asthma may be the case with you especially if you have sneezing, coughing attacks or a persistent or seasonal nasal discharge (e.g., runny nose). Excessive laughing can trigger asthma attacks in some.
If you have a panic attack, you also feel the same way but exercising and cold weather would not be triggers.
A lung function test, or serial peak flow recordings twice daily for 2 weeks would give an indication if this is asthma.
Regular treatment with inhalers is the answer but the choice of inhalers would depend on the severity of the asthma.

Best Wishes.
