Tips To Get Rid Of Huge Bump That Appeared Near Belly Button Due To Piercing

Hi I got my belly button pierced about a year ago and a huge bump appeared in my belly button to the point where it almost covered up my entire belly button. I was told by a local piercer that I need to take it out because it was a keloid. So I took it out and let it heal. Just recently I went and got it repierced thinking the same thing wouldn't happen. But ofcourse, here I am again with a huge bump in my belly button. I asked the man that pierced it about it and he told me that it was not a keloid but an abscess. He then pushed on it and puss started coming out of the holes like crazy. Then he put the jewelry back in and since then I have been cleaning it often with hydrogen peroxide. It goes down some times, but if I go a couple days with out the hydrogen peroxide it comes back. It hurts and is sore but it isn't red anywhere on my belly button, just swollen and rock hard, and now no matter how hard I push on it no puss will come out. What should I do?

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

It was an infected wound turning into abscess due to the infection that may have got introduced at the time of piercing due to aseptic conditions.

Since you said that it drained pus but it still feels hard and sore therefore i would keep a possibility of some simmering infection still persisting in it.

I would advice that you remove the belly button for the time being and allow the infection to drain and heal.

In such a scenario i would have asked you to take an oral antibiotic (penicillin group e.g Amoxycillin preferably in combination with clavulanic acid) for a week.

Topical antibacterial like mupirocin twice daily would help in addition.

An OTC pain killer like ibuprofen twice daily would help you with the pain part.

take care
regards
