Toe Wounded. Had It Stitched And Bandaged. Removed The Bandage Due To Pain. Suggestions

Hello. Yesterday I was wounded by broken glass on the side if my big toe on my left foot..
I went to emergency care and they stitched it up(@5 stitches). They bandaged my foot and I went home with antibiotics. During the evening the small toe and area near my small toe began to have sharp pains that kept me up most of the night. The pain is worse than the injury
! I'm thinking the bandages around my foot were to tight, cause insufficient blood flow to my small toe. However, this morning it still is very painful and I took the bandages off. I don't know why the uninsured side of my foot would hurt more than the wounded/stitched side? Any suggestions or thoughts?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome at HCM.

I have read complete details of your question.

I can feel your pain. The toes & finger are tight compartments from inside which are bounded by septa, due to this even a small amount of bleed inside leads to an excessive pain. You should do following to have relief in this-

-Avoid walking or bearing weight on affected foot.

-Keep your affected limb elevated on pillow.

-Do cold water fomentation over the affected part. This will help in reducing swelling & thus pain.

-Take a good anti inflammatory analgesic like aleeve.

-Continue antibiotics as these are necessary to prevent infection.

-If you have opened or removed the dressing then go to nearby health center & get it dressed.

Hope this all will help you.

With best wishes & get well soon.
