Took A Folk Medicine For Dog Bite. Can I Get Anti Rabies Vaccination After Some Years Of This Accident??

hi sir,im a filipino boy who lived in manila philippines,i was bitten by our dog named bully,5 years ago,i didnt undergone vaccination but by a “Tandok” is a folk medicine done by placing a deer horn over the wound. This is believed to suck out the rabies virus.I observe our dog within 14 and it didnt die unless he is healthy and well,i just want to ensure my health,and ask if can I still have the anti rabbies vaccine now after it happened 5 years ago?,im hopefully waiting for your answer,thank you sir,Godbless,sir i hope this is free,we dont have money,if this isnt free u dont need to give your answers and never mind my query,tnx a lot

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Your history of dog bite 5 years back, and you was not vaccinated for rabies, you observed the dog and he was not suffering from rabies.
You are lucky as the was not having rabies,I really do not know how much this folk medicine work but you should not believe in such things.I fact they do not work at all.
In your case the dog bite was not rabies hence you did not have any disease and after so many years chances of rabies are nil.
I do not think now you need rabies vaccination but in future you should be careful and if you have any suspicious bite or scratch there must be post exposure vaccination.

hello and thanks for the query
since u were bitten by a dog fi've years ago it is unlikely that u will develop rabies. rabies virus does not have such a long incubation period . therefore there is no need for vaccination at present. also ur dog did not develop any signs of rabies so u are safe .henceforth please take precaution to take vaccine when any dog b bites. I cannot comment about ur local medicine but most likely it is ineffective.
