Total Degenerative Arthritis Of Left Shoulder And Lumbar Back. Taken Treatment In Pain Clinic. Pain Persists. Remedy?

I have total degenerative arthritis of the left shoulder a/c joint, terminales and about 2 other growths in my Lumbar and lower back resulting in debilitating pain and I apologise for the incorrect spellings but I hope you have the information to understand that I am in constant and radiating pain in both legs. I have been very well treated by a physician who has referred me to pain clinics which I have diligently gone for assessment.
However, today I finished my prescription for Oxycodet (5 mg. 4xd) and am in wild pain. This is a complicated situation because the doctor who is now supposed to haven take over my care from the locum has left me hanging in thin air and has ignored me and effectively done what no doctor should do-first cause harm. I am not an addict (I can have several doctors vouch for this) yet this Physician has left me without sufficient pain medication. What am I to do-this is a very embarrassing question because of the many calls to his office, the pharmacy and am demoralized and much much worse incapacitated with pain.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
The description suggests that you have 2 different entities - A C joint arthrits & Low back pain. The initial management for both these condition is conservative methods.

FOR AC JOINT ARTHRITIS -
* Activity modification - avoiding activities that puts strain on the joint
* Moist heat application
* Analgesic antiinflammatory medicines
* At times, an intra articular steroid provides a good pain relief
If the pain is not getting relieved by the above measures, then an arthroscopic excision of dista end of clavicle might be needed.

FOR LOW BACK PAIN -
* avoid forward bending activities
* maintain optimum body weight
* sit always with straight back
* use a lumbar support while moving around
* ocassional analgesics & muscle relaxants
* intermittant pelvic traction
* physiotherapy to strengthen your back muscles

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
