Total Right Replacement. Using Pain Killers And Fentanyl Patches. Scans For Infection. Advice?
I had total right replacement Oct 2011, I was in a great deal of pain when I came out of theatre. Sept 2012 I had aurtheroscopy to check joint and remove a lot of scar tissue. March 2013 I had revision surgery on my right hip. I now have a 3cm x 4cm hole in my scar which I have redressed every day. I am on 22 pain killers and fentamyl patches 2012 I was playing golf twice and playing badminton twice a week, now I cant go out of the house, cant drive and not worked since sept 2012
Help what do I go where do I go?. I'm sick of the pain and what it has done to me, my wife and family. I have had a lot of scans for infection, there may be CRPS and there could be damage to nerves
From the description, it is evident that even your revision hip surgery got infected.
This is just to let you know that once infection occurs in a prosthetic joint, it is practically impossible to eliminate it with only antibiotics or any other medications. This is because of the fact that the bacteria produces BIOFILMS around them and gets adhered to the surface of the implants where the antibiotics cannot reach.
The only solution for complete eradication of infection is REMOVAL OF THE IMPLANTS. Though this will be disheartening, you have to accept it.
I suggest you to approach an arthroplasty surgeon with adequate experience in dealing with revision surgeries.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
