Treating Triple Negative Breast Cancer, Lymphnodes Removed With Mastectomy, Open Sores On Chest, Back, Bumps Under Skin. Cause?

My 42 year old daughter is being treated for triple negative breast cancer. She had double mastectomy and the cancer came back on her skin. She has open sores on chest and back and weird looking round bumps under her skin on her back and chest. I really can't get an answer as to why she has this. I don't think she even knows. Thankyou- YYYY@YYYY
ps - she also has 25 lymphnodes removed with mastectomy

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Triple negative breast cancers are associated with poor prognosis.
You have mentioned that your daughter has developed sores and bumps on the skin.
These lesions can be recurrence of breast cancer.
A prompt aspiration and/or biopsy of these bumps is required.
Aspiration cytology will identify if malignant cells are present or not..
If malignant cells are present, a biopsy can be done and immunohistochemistry can be performed to know the immune profile of the lesion.
On the basis of these investigations, further management can be performed.
Chemotherapy and radiotherapy can be planned according to the results of the investigations.
Triple negative tumors have poor prognosis and there are chances of distant metastasis is also present.

Thanks and take care

Oncologist, Surgical Dr. Rohan Khandelwal's  Response
Dear Ma'am,

Sorry to hear about your daughter's problem. Triple negative breast cancer is an aggressive variant of breast cancer and has a high chances of recurrence. The lesions which you have described are typical of breast cancer recurrence. At her stage, the only treatment available is chemotherapy to control her symptoms. You should consult your oncologist and schedule the chemotherapy.

Hoping for the best. Please feel free to clarify any other query.
