dear 54 year old female,

i understand that you have osteoarthritis for some years now and must have been under some medicines for pain relief and maybe physiotherapy as well.
One concern is whether you are sure it is osteoarthritis and not rheumatoid arthritis, as the latter disease often produces pain in the hands.

coming to your point on red wine, it is quite possible that your metabolism is behaving positively to the stoppage of alcohol and helping in the pain relief.

i suggest you continue your abstinence for another week and then as a test try having it again for a week or 2 to assess whether your pain returns, this way we will be able to be doubly sure that abstinence from your alcohol will help your disease.

take care.
