I have an occasional dry cough with mild phlem in throat. after a spell of coughing, I felt a strong pop on the left side, like around the tonsil. I can feel pain when I touch the outside of my throat and it is painful to swallow. I also woke up with laringitis today.

Hi,
from history it seems that you might be having acute upper respiratory tract infection giving rise this problem.
Go forone course of antibiotic medicine like Azithromicin for 3-5 days.
Do warm water gargles.
Avoid cold drinks, fried and junk food.
Take some cough syrup as well.
Ok and take care.
