Hello Doctor
My mother was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis about 3 months back (she is 65, diabetic and has hypertension). Medication involved Jublin M, Mega3flex (calcium) and Bonof. Last week she suddenly had vomittings, fever and trembling hands and doctor instructed to stop Jublin M.
Since she is undergoing short memory loses. Please let me know whom to consult / remidy for this.
thanks
Vinay
Hi, Osteoporosis is diagnosed by evaluating the bone mineral density. If your mother was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis, she needs to be on treatment with biphosphonate group of medications or hormone therapy along with calcium and Vitamin D supplementation. she will also require, non pharmacologic therapies like resistance training and weight bearing exercises as it can help in building muscle strength and also contributed to increasing bone density. Short term memory losses must be secondary to early stage of dementia. She will require treatment based on cause to improve her contribution to self and family. You can meet a neurologist for memory issues and an orthopaedician for osteoporosis issues. Diet is very important along with exercise. Maintain a nutrition rich diet. Try to avoid falling as in severe osteoporosis, fractures are common. Make the surroundings elderly friendly.
