Trouble Swallowing Pills, Eating Food Without Much Chewing, Hiccups, Excessive Phlegm, Vomiting. Advise?
My wife has trouble swallowing pills, eating food without much chewing, starts hiccups which leads to excessive phlegm coming into the throat the results in her throwing up whatever she has eaten to that point. If she drinks very cold water, it also seems to lock up her throat from beginning eating. Warm liquids no problem. Problem has surfaced among several local folks, even in their teens. Is this something that has started to occur at random?
hi, thank you for your query, your wife's problems point towards achasia cardia. it is a disorder of smooth muscle motility in the esophagus.wherein the sphincter fails to relax in face of oncoming food stimulus, which results in functional narrowing of the lower esophagus, and peristaltic failure throughout its length. Dehydration and or undernutrition caused by restrictions may result in weight loss. this disease has the characteristic problem of inability to swallow liquids.
hence kindly consult your gp for treatment of the same.
thanking you, wishing you speedy recovery
