Tummy Ache And Sobbing Pain. Why Does It Keep Coming Back?

hi dr..my son is 4yrs old and complained of tummy ache this morning and later in the afternoon he was sobbing in pain. went to see ped and he said nothing was wrong and came back with tummy ache med. he did put in the supesitory and later he pooped and again he pooped only this time with red jelly mucus and again he pooped out white mucus..should i be concerned and what is going on? i am really worried. thank you

Hi
I am sorry to alarm you but these may be symptoms of intussusception. In this a part of the intestine pushes itself into the part ahead of it. This results into obstruction to the contents of intestines. Child presents with pain and passing red jelly like mucus instead of stools. This condition if diagnosed early can be treated with out surgery but after delay surgery is the only choice. I suggest you consult your doctor, preferably a pediatric surgeon soon. An ultrasound of the abdomen will clinch the diagnosis.
