Twisted Ankle After A Fall. Have A Painful Swollen Bruised Knot. Need To Be Consulted?

So I fell off the stage and down some stairs at my sisters wedding this last Saturday and landed with my ankle twisting and hitting the corner of the stair, it got really swollen and bruised with a big knot on it and it hurts to walk on it. The bruise isnt as bad looking but it has been numb an itchy and pretty bad sore still...is it anything I should get checked out? Or is it normal to still be swollen and have a hard knot on it?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

I think you might be having an ankle sprain.

I advice you rest as it prevents further injury and avoids stress on already inflamed tissue. Applying ice to the injury will help decrease pain. Ice counteracts the increased blood flow to the injured area. It reduces swelling, redness, and warmth. Elastic wraps such as Ace bandages immobilize the ankle. Do not apply wraps too tightly. Ideally, prop the ankle up so that it is above the level of the heart. Anti-inflammatory pain medications such as ibuprofen and naproxen will reduce the pain and combat swelling.

If the above mentioned measures does not help or the severity increases i advice you to see orthopedic surgeon to rule out any hair line fracture. It can be diagnosed by x ray, and help in confirming the exact diagnosis.

Hope I have provided the information you needed.
Wish you good health. Take care.
