Two Days Of Contractions, Then Labor, Then Epidural And Then C-section. Baby Suffering Lack Of Oxygen. Is It Presumed ?
Two days of contractions.then 40hrs of labour then epidural then emergency c section. The midwife/consultant decided baby was suffering from lack of oxygen. Is this a presumption or is some kind of test done. Born with red nail beds. Feeding now...... 4hrs after birth. No sign of any cooling of the brain cells though baby (on pics) seems to be wearing a hospital beanie hat. Don't like to upset my children unnecessarily They are too overjoyed at the moment and after the ordeal deserve this time. It's me who is worried......Grandma
Hello. Thanks for writing to us. After labor pains for two days, a continuous CTG can only assess if the baby suffered a lack of oxygen in the uterus or not. The hospital records must have an CTG tracing to certify this. I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. Regards, Dr. Rakhi Tayal , drrakhitayal@gmail.com
Hi, In order to assess the baby's well-being a CTG trace can be continuously monitored. Also, a fetal blood sample can be taken from the baby's scalp. This is processed and can indicate whether the baby is suffering a lack of oxygen. The baby is wearing a beanie hat to avoid the baby's temperature falling. Babies are very likely to lose heat through the scalp unless care is taken to cover up the head. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger
