Ultrasound Shows High Resistance Flow With Early Diastolic Notching. Should We Have Early Delivery?
My wife recently got her 36th week ultrasound (doppler) on August 10, 2013, wherein it was identified that her right uterine artery showing high resistance flow with early diastolic notching. Further, the weeks as per LMP is 36 weeks and 1 day and the growth of the baby was noted as 34 weeks and 5 days.
Our doctor adviced for an early delivery by next week stating all vital signs are good. Further, the baby's head has not reached the pelvis.
Please advice, what should be the right course as we wish to have a normal delivery. Can there be any food suppliments which could improve the report findings?
Hi Dear, increased resistance to blood flow in uterine artery with early diastolic notching is an indication of high risk to either IUGR or PIH (raised BP during pregnancy). However, already your wife is 36 weeks and these do not carry importance at present. However, in my view, these findings per se is not an indication for early delivery if not associated with other high risk factors. Also, the scan done at 36 weeks is not a dating scan and do not correspond exactly to your gestation age.So biometry of 34+5 at 36 weeks is norml In my view you can still wait provided your scan shows sufficient liquor and you are perceiving fetal movements well and all other high risk factors like PIH, Diabetes etc has been ruled out

Hi, your wife has an early diastolic notch in right uterine artery at 36 th week of pregnancy. At this stage there is full growth of baby,The point of concern being rise in maternal b.p. & fetal well being if the condition is neglected. Your doctor has advised correctly as all the vital signs being good, & baby being viable it's advisable to have safe early delivery next week. Thank you.
