Unable To Sleep Since Knee Replacement Surgery, Horrible Feelings In Body. Possible Causes ?

For 15 months since knee replacement surgery I have not been able to sleep. When I lay down I will sleep for a few hours and then wake up to horrible feelings in my body, almost like being shocked. Every time I return yo sleep, I get waken by the same sensations until I finally get up exhausted. I have seen many doctors and had many tests which really do not show anything. The only way I can get some sleep is to take a sleeping pill, which I do not like to take. Can you help me explain what is going on.
