Uncontrollable Tightening And Numbness In Mouth Muscles While Eating. Reason?

Every so often my mouth muscles start tightening up and sort of feel numb. My lips sort of look like a pucker, but I am not doing it. I don't have control of it, they just tightened up and it makes it hard to open my mouth. It always happens when I am eating. It lasts for a few minutes and then goes back to normal. Sometimes it lasts longer and is more profound. What do you think could cause this?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The tightness and numbness around the mouth on eating is likely to be due to a muscle spasm. Electrolyte imbalance, vitamin B complex deficiency can also cause such symptoms. Do consult a neurologist for treatment.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
