Upper Lips Has Turned Dry And Dark, Feels Numb, Peeling Causes Burning Sensation. Is It Allergy?

My upper lip became oddly splotchy and seems to be really dry and darker than usual. It feels numb and when I run my tongue or finger over it, it feels spotty. It s been like this for a week now, and I ve tried a few lip balms but it doesn t seem to do anything. Peeling at the dry bits causes some tingling/slight burning sensation. Read some other answers below and I did suspect some mild allergy although I m not sure what it could be and whether an allergy could last more than a week as this has been

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
You seem to have developed cheilitis. It could have occured due to lip biting or picking of dry, lip licking, application of any lip balm or lip stick. Sometimes toothpaste or any nutritional deficiency, infection too can induce such lesions.
To treat the same avoid lip licking. Do not try to remove dry dead skin. Apply a mild steroid antibiotic cream for few days. Once the lesins heal use a lip balm with good sun protection factor.
Hope that helped.
Take care

Hi, thanks for posting your query.

You seem to have developed chapped lips or cheilitis, or lip lick dermatitis.

We have a natural tendency to moisten the lips with tongue but the saliva removes the oil from the lips leaving them drier so avoid running the tongue over lips.
Avoid peeling the dry bits.
You may apply a mild steroid cream twice a day for a few days.
Apply a lip balm with UV protection.

Hope this helps you.

Take care
