Hello and welcome to HCM,
Blood in stools occurs in number of conditions.
What is your age?
Infection, irritable bowel disease,
inflammatory bowel disease, mesenteric vein occlusion, ulcers, polyp, cancer are some of the causes of blood in the stools.
Firstly you need to get stool examination.
This investigation will identify any infectious agent in the stools.
This should be followed by
colonoscopy.
In this investigation, a flexible scope with a camera at its head is inserted into the lower gastrointestinal tract.
The interior of the colon is viewed.
Any abnormality like any ulceration, erosion, polyp, or growth is identified.
Biopsy (small tissue fragment) is taken from the areas of abnormality and examined microscopically.
Thereafter diagnosis is made on the basis of microscopic findings.
Bleeding can also occur in ulceration, erosion, or fissures of the anal skin.
Consult a gastroenterologist for clinical examination, relevant investigations and further management.
Thanks and take care
