My sister-in-law has a condition characterized by a low sodium level, urinary tract infection ,and low temperature and has been unconscious since yesterday afternoon at 3:30.She is in an ICU of a hospital in Fairfax,Va. I live in New York. Her vital signs are fine, and her temperature has been raised from 94 degrees to about 96.5. Can you shed any light on this condition. Thank you. YYYY@YYYY
Thank you for your question.
Sodium is one of the more important electrolytes in your body, these electrolytes are responsible for the electrical balance across every cell membrane and thus paramount to normal cell function. Of all the cells in your body, those most sensitive to electrolyte imbalance are the brain and heart muscle. It is this detrimental effect on the brain that causes her symptoms , not least of all the ability of the brain to regulate the body temperature , this is of course not the only brain function that is affected . The answer to treating the problem lies in controlling the electrolyte balance and pH balance.
I trust you find this helpfull, please ask if you have any further questions.
