Used Contraceptive Pills Microgyon. Now In China Given Levonorgestrel, Ethinyloestradiol. Consumption Of It Is Confusing. Suggestions?

Dear Doctor,

I am using contraceptive pills for years and I after a break, I am changing brand and starting to use Microgynon. As I have moved to China, I bought these pills - same, but another brand, chinese one (levonorgestrel 0,15mg and ethinyloestradiol 0,03mg) and it has 22 pills that should be taken from the 5th day of the period and again wait for 5th day of the next period for another package. This is confusing to me and I'm not sure when does the protection start, so I am wondering can I start to take them as we do it on the West - 21 days from the 1st day of period + 7 days break? Thank you

Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. I would advise you to call into the doctor's office to find out how exactly you need to be taking these medications as it could be different there. Just to clear the confusion, it usually is the case that the OCPs are standardized and they are taken the same way all over the world. However confirming this might be helpful in allaying your anxiety.
