Using Hard Contact Lens, Diagnosed Keratoconus. Have Aches Around Cranium Plus Strains On Sinuses. Advise ?

hello, am a 31 year old male diagnosed last year with Keratoconus . My doctor recommended Hard Contact lenses , which am currently using. However, I constantly experience aches around my cranium plus strains on sinuses above & below the eyes. I can see clearly using the lenses and wondering if there could be an underlying problem. What additional treatment/ examinations would you advise me to undertake since my doctor ruled out the need for having brain scans. Regards

Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Keratoconus is a disorder of the cornea characterized by progressive thinning and ectasia which results in
defective vision. Contact lens and Intra corneal rings help in refractive errors.

A new modality of treatment, based on collagen crosslinking with the help of Ultraviolet A rays and the
photosensitizer riboflavin phosphate is in practice ,which increases the strength of the layers of cornea by almost 300%. Case studies all over the world has shown, that an increase in corneal strength arrests the progression of KC. This is not the cure for KC but reduces the need for future corneal transplant.

However, in advanced KC 's where thickness is less than 350 microns, C3R is not possible, other surgical options like DALK can be done.

So get a corneal surgeons second opinion to stop your progression of your KC. Hope this helps. Take care.

Welcome to HealthcareMagicForum

Hi..karius.., Keratoconus is a condition, in which , the cornea is conical in shape and this lead to distortion in vision..., continue to wear the hard contact lens, maintain sterile precautions while cleaning using it..., since unhygienic habit can result in keratitis... the permanent solution is corneal transplantation..
Take care..
