Voiding Problem Where The Child Is Not Emptying The Bladder. Is There A Solution Other Than Catheing Him Every 4 Hours?

I have a 4 year old son that had a tumor removed off the bottom of his spine at 1month of age. We are having trouble potty training him. We have had him to a urologist they say he has voiding problems where he is not emptying his bladder. They suggest catheing him every 4 hours, Im just trying to figure out if there is other options available, which im getting a second opinion but thats 6 months away.

HI
Thanks for writing to healthcare magic.
Usually spinal cord nerve damage recovers to some extent esp as the tumor has been removed.
Keep your hopes positive , he might need this temporarily.
Once bladder function improves cath may not be needed. Till then its the only option.
