Wax Build-up In Ears, Bleeding Post Ear Injury, Sore Throat. Treatment For Injury?

I had a bit of wax buildup and used a cotton bud, I turned around as someone knocked on the door and opened it into my arm , I knocked the bud into my ear and it came out with alot of blood on the swab. I can still hear fine after I swabbed the blood up and my throat is a little sore. Is this normal for having a cotton bud hitting the inner ear , and will I be fine once I wake up tomorrow?

Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

You seemed to have inadvertently caused an injury to either the ear canal or the tympanic membrane (ear drum). Now, you have mentioned that there was a lot of blood in the swab and so, we can never be sure how severe the damage has been. Moreover, if there has been a tear or damage to the tympanic membrane, then this may be serious.

It is safe to get your ear examined in order to determine the nature and extent of the damage. So, to be on the safer side, I would suggest that you see a doctor for an examination.

Wish you all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Jonas Sundarakumar
