Weird Muscle Spasms, Numbness In Foot, After Exertion, No Headaches. Suggest Reasons?
I have a friend who's son is 11 y/o, he had been experiencing some wierd muscle spasms. The episodes start with tingling in his left foot then numbness so profound that he will fall and progressive muscle spasms up the left side of his body including his neck and it will pull his head to the left side. These episodes generally follow exhertion of some kind...playing football, rock climbing etc. Lab work revealed normal lytes and kidney function. He has had about four episodes in the past year and they can last up to 4 hours. His Dad can "prevent" them from progressing sometimes by cupping/squeezing the arch of his foot from the bottom and pushing his toes towards his body extending his calf muscle. There is no headache associated with these episodes. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The serial muscle spasms that he is having are likely to be related to a neuromuscular disorder or electrolyte imbalance. A detailed evaluation under the guidance of a neurologist will help in detecting the exact cause.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
