What OTC Medicine Is Recommended For Yellow Phlegm, Stuffy Nose, Back Pain, TMJ?

What OTC medicine would you reccommend for the following symptoms: Hurts to swallow , but is not throat. More like, roof of my mouth?, pressure in R ear and R sinus. Nose isn t stuffy, and no fever. Yellow phlegm . Back pain aswell, but is probably related to my job. I am currently on Flexoril, Percoset, Mobic, for TMJ . I m thinking it s an ear infection, Tylenol and Mucinex maybe?

Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

From the description of your symptoms, it appears that you may be having an upper respiratiory tract infection, probably a rhino-sinusitis. You probably need some medication which will include an anti-histamine, a decongestant and an anti-inflamatory medication,

I think it would be okay to take Tylenol (which contains an antihistamine and anti-inflamatory agent) and Mucinex (which is a mucolytic / decongestant). In addition, I would advise you to take saline or betadine gargles for the throat discomfort and nasal drops (though you have mentioned that you don't have nasal stuffiness, nasal drops can help relieve the congested / blocked sensation in the ear). If your symptoms persist or worsen despite these OTC medication or if you develop any other complications, then you need to seek further medical attention.

Wish you all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Jonas Sundarakumar
