What Alternative Treatments Are Available For An Esophageal Sphincter Dysfunction?

I have been diagnosed with an esophageal condition in that my spincter (?) muscles are not working. i am being put on a medication. If medication does not improve the situation, what are my alternatives. My doctor said this is a serious situation but did not give me an answer regarding alternatives.

Esophageal sphincter dysfunctions are quite difficult to treat. We can try medicines like cholinergics as a first line therapy. If the symptoms persist with medical management, surgical correction may be needed. Now-a-days laparoscopic/thoracoscopic approaches are preferred and shows good results. You can also try some dietary modifications and life style changes to decrease the symptoms. I suggest you to consult a good surgical gastroenterologist and get evaluated. He will direct you to various options.
