I have been on Cholesterol lowering drugs in the past but they did not agree with so I stopped but now I have a Cholesterol level of 410 and the doctor wants me to start on Crestor. I am worried about all the side effects. How dangerous is it for me if I do not take the medication?
Hi & Welcome. High Cholesterol level can significantly increase your risk of developing cardiovascular disease, including disease of blood vessels supplying the heart (coronary artery disease), brain (cerebrovascular disease), and limbs (peripheral vascular disease). These conditions can in turn lead to heart attacks, strokes, and other problems. Because of these risks, treatment is often recommended for people with high cholesterol level. Crestor (Rosuvastatin) is found to be effective in lowering the high cholesterol level thus reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Generally, it is a safe medications however it can cause muscle pain, tenderness or weakness (due to inflammation of the muscles), abdominal pain, vomiting (due to inflammation of the liver). It may also cause confusion and memory problems on chronic use. Hope this answers your query.
