What Are The Chances Of HIV Transmission From A Staple Prick If The Staple Had Fresh Blood On It?

I got grocery paper bags delivered with staples on it. I pricked myself 5 minutes after the delivery when unpacking the bags. There were a couple of drops of blood after the prick. And I noticed that the bag had blood stains around the staple pin. I live in a town with high HIV prevalence and I am fairly certain the delivery driver pricked himself before delivering the bags and it was his blood stains on the bag. What are the chances of HIV transmission to me assuming the driver is HIV positive?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

HIV is highly positive in vaginal and seminal fluid transmission. According to your history, due to fresh blood and high prevalence area, you can just go for screening of HIV, as a precautionary measure, but getting positive for HIV is very low or no.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
