What Are The Chances Of Getting HIV Despite Having Safe Sex?

Hello doctor, i am a male and i had protected oral and vaginal sex with a call girl 5 days ago, i wanted to ask you what are my chances of acquiring hiv? The condom was a strawberry flavoured durex condom and we used the same condom for penetrative sex afterwards, i had not removed it, i had vaginal sexbriefly for period of 45 seconds to 1 minute, oral sex for about 40 seconds prior to vaginal sex. The condom didnt break or tear and also i have not seen any symptoms as of now. This was unfortunately my forst sex experience and has left me stressed. The call girl said she had just entered the profession about one and half month ago and had sex with 40 people before me. Although she never tested for hiv.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If there is no contact with sexual fluids or blood there is no risk of HIV. HIV infection needs to get into the blood stream to cause symptoms.

People get HIV infections via cuts, abrasions, sores or bleeding gums, so oral sex does have the risk of spreading infection.

It depends upon whether or not you & your partner performed a safe sexual activity or not.

Sex with multiple partners is only safe if they are not HIV positive. If you feel you are underexposure of HIV, visit a GP & take PEP (Post-exposure prophylaxis within 72 hours).

Avoid multiple partners & unsafe sex. Avoid oral & anal sex. Get STD tests done to stay on the safer side. You may need antivirals & antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
