Hi,

Susten 400 is a progesterone hormone supplement that is often prescribed to support the endometrium (lining of the uterus) and promote pregnancy. In women with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), it can help regulate the menstrual cycle and improve fertility.

Discontinuing Susten 400 abruptly may lead to a sudden drop in progesterone levels, which can cause various symptoms such as menstrual irregularities, mood changes, headaches, and hot flashes. However, in your case, you took it for only 6 days and then had your period, so the risk of significant effects may be lower.

It is important to follow your doctor's instructions carefully and complete the prescribed course of Susten 400 as directed. If you are unable to continue taking the medication, you should discuss this with your doctor and seek their advice on the best course of action. They may adjust your treatment plan or suggest alternative medications or therapies.

Overall, sudden discontinuation of Susten 400 may have some effects, but they may vary depending on the individual and the duration of use. It is always best to consult your doctor before making any changes to your medication regimen.

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Diwashish Biswas's  Response
Hi,

Susten 400 (progesterone) is a medication that is often prescribed to women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to help regulate their menstrual cycles. The medication is typically taken for a certain number of days, usually from the 15th to the 25th day of the menstrual cycle, depending on the individual's needs.

It's not uncommon for women to experience some irregular bleeding or spotting when they discontinue taking progesterone. This is because progesterone helps to stabilize the uterine lining and prevent it from shedding, and when the medication is discontinued, the lining may start to break down and cause bleeding. There is nothing much to worry.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Diwashish Biswas, Internal Medicine Specialist
