What Are The Ill Effects Of Tampon That Which Is Not Removed?

I realized I had forgotten to remove a tampon at the end of my last period. I had some bleeding a week after my period ended and then some pink discharge (terrible odor) today and realized what the cause must be. I was able to remove it but should I be worried or need to see a doctor? I have had some mild cramping the last 2 days and some after removing the lost one. Will an at home deuce help with the odor?

Hello,

It is not good to forget removing the tampons after your period is over. It will get compressed at the top of the vagina causing infection(staph aureus). You may have itching, irritation, inflammation in the labia & perineal areas. Since you had discharge with bad odor you are suggested to get clinically examined by a OBGYN. You may need ointments for local application & medicines. Take care of your hygiene.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
