What Are The Other Alternatives Of Boniva For Osteopina?

I have had Crohn s Disease for the past 37 yrs . Having taken Prednisone for 16 yrs straight (not for the past 15 yrs). I have just been told I had severe Osteopina & was told to take Boniva. However, there seems to be severe side effects. Should I still think about taking it (had a stroke in 2008)

Hello,

Chronic steroid intake may cause osteopenia. So you may take bisphosphonates for osteopenia. They may have side effects but more useful in osteoporosis.

Calcitonin, bisphosphonates or steroid replacement therapy may useful. Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you with alternate medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
