What Are The Possible Treatments For Rheumatoid Arthritis?
My wife, Beverly Gregory was diagnosed with Peripheral Neuropathy some 20 years ago and has been taking prescribed medication since. We have purchased a home in Franklin KY and wish to change Doctors now. She was treated by Dr. M Shamsnia at Tulane Medical Center, New Orleans, LA.
Her first visit with him produced A Sleep Apnea Test and a Nerve Induction and Blood Tests over a period of some three weeks. He advised her to discontinue three meds: Nortriptaline (10MG), Tramadol (50MG) and Gabapentin (100MG) at prescribed intervals and prescribed Hydracodpne (7.5-200 Tab) Twice a day and Tartrate (10 MG) one tablet at bedtime which she only dosed once or twice because she would sleep 10/12 hours straight and wake up completely drowsy during her awake time.
She continues to dose these meds: Fosnopril 10MG 1/2 tab per day, Lovastatin 40MG Tab 1 Tab Daily, Hydrochlorothiazide 25MG 1 Tab Daily, and TRAMADOL 50MG 1 to 2 Tabs at bedtime.
We moved to Franklin KY November 19th from Gulfport, MS and plan to live in the house we have purchased is the reason for searching for a Doctor in the Nashville area.
SYMPTOMS: Tingling and pain in hands and feet. Excruciating pain in the small toe frequently until reducing Nortiptiline and starting Hydracodone med. inability to go to sleep at normal bedtime hour and up and down 4 or 5 times on the couch, etc. The Meds prescribed by Dr. Shamsnia have already helped her sleep routine. He also recommended consulting a Rheumatologist for possible Rheumatoid Arthritis condition.
Bev's original diagnosis and treatment was with Doctors at the Kansas City Neurology Clinic, Kansas City, KS., some 20 years ago. Follow up med prescription were with her Family Physician in Lawrence, KS.

Thanks for posting your queryRheumatoid arthritis is a disease that is autoimmune in nature. It affects mainly synovial joints like the joints of hands, feet, although any joint can be affected by it. Just like various chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension and ischaemic heart disease are not curable but controllable; rheumatoid arthritis is also controllable.
With proper medication you can lead an absolutely normal life without any pain or disability. The drugs usually given are methotrexate ,HCQS,Sulfsalazine along with folic acid and pain killer.
It is not advisable to stop medication on your own as it only leads to accrual of joint damage and leads to joint deformities. So keep a positive attitude and take regular medication; also exercise regularly.

My advice would be visit a rheumatologist/physician for evaluation and treatment.
