What Are The Rashes On The Scalp?

My 9 yr. old daughter started itching on the back of her scalp 2 days ago. Tonight it got really bad. I found that she has a rash on her scalp and around her ears. It was warm to the touch. Any ideas as to what this could be.? Definitely not head lice, I checked very thoroughly.

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I would keep a possibility of Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. It clinically presents as red, scaly, itchy patches on the scalp and sides of the ears.

If I was the treating doctor I would have asked you to use a 2% ketoconazole shampoo thrice weekly for 2-4 weeks followed by one or twice weekly for maintenance.

A topical steroid lotion can be used twice daily, over the scalp skin and behind her ears for 2 weeks for rapid relief which can thereafter be maintained by antidandruff shampoo.
