What Are The Screening Tests For Cognitive Impairment?

I went to a neurologist because of my memory. I m 60 years old and have had this problem for at least 8 years. I also have a depression problem since my 20 s. He said no Alzheimer s. Might be having cognitive problems. He did a EEG to make sure by brain is fireing right. I have to go back to see him for the results. My question is, Is there any other tests that can be done to look at the brain to see what s going on in there? and if I am having bad cognitive problems what is going to happen to me? What do they do for that?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The ways to identify the lesions are
1. clinical- there needs to be a neuropsychological assessment, commonly known as lobar function tests.
2. scanning of the brain by MRI followed or accompanied by PET may help diagnose the issue.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
