Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently started using corsodyl mouthwash. I habe experienced a rash on the front of my tongue and along the sides for a few days, that is now gone. now I find my lower gum line is looking dark, my gums have always been pink. am I allergic to the ingredients in the corsodyl mouthwash or can something else be wrong?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain Corsodyl mouthwash contains its main actve ingredient Chlorhexidine Gluconate and is is an antimicrobial agent.. The symptoms of redness over the tongue tip,and side of tongue along with dark looking gums can be either due to allergic reaction to it or it can also be due to taking a concentrated solution of mouthwash causing chemical injury and inflammation.. I would suggest you to gargle with the mouthwash by mixing 1:1 concentration of mouthwash and water.. You can do warm saline gargles and suck on ice pops to relieve inflammation of tongue.. Continue for a week and in case if symptoms exaggerate or the symptoms does not improve you should stop using the mouthwash and switch to other mouthwashes with different composition after consulting with an Oral physician..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
