What Are The Side Effects Of Gabapentin?

I have Restless Leg Syndrome that has become much worse in the past year. I am 69 yr old woman in good health, active, 5 5 130 lbs. My only meds at Losartan for variable BP and Lovastatin, occasional Meloxicam for arthritis. My doc is considering putting me on gabapentin in pm (I am OK during the day) wondering if this is ok for long term use and side effects.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Gabapentin is a relatively safer drug and side effects are minimal with common prescribed dosage. It can cause some side effects when it is taken in a larger dose and on prolonged use. The common side effects are dizziness, tiredness, and. gastritis. On prolonged use it can cause dependence and withdrawal symptoms. It can cause serious side effects when combined with alcohol. You can continue gaba in prescribed dose with out any fear. You can also continue your routine drugs along with gaba. No drug interactions have been reported.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
