Hi,I am Diwashish Biswas (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I woke up Sunday at 5:45am I had an erratic heart beat palps all in one tried to ignore it. Then all of sudden I had a a massive fast heart beat where it was like I was running. It lasted about 13 minutes then poof just stopped. I went to the hospital all my cardiac results came back perfect. I Restarted my Lexapro 5mg could it be that, or could it be svt? I have no heart damage or prior heart condition. I do have anxiety which could have led into it.
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns. You recently noted a fast heart beat. You think this maybe related to anxiety. The answer is yes anxiety can frequently cause elevated heart rate. During anxiety the body produces high levels of adrenalin. If you are taking Lexapro this is an antidepressant as well as an anti anxiety medication. I would recommend you continue Lexapro. If the palpitations continue I would recommend see your doctor again and asking for a holter monitor which will check your heart rate for 24 hours. This will catch the abnormal heart rate and tell us exactly what type of rhythm it truly is.
I hope this answers your question. Please contact us again with any of your health care concerns or questions
