What Are The Side Effects Of Lisonopril And Amlodipine?

I was just prescribed Lisonopril (40 mg) and Amlodipine (10 mg) for high blood pressure. I know one is supposed to be the primary medication and the other I could start later or take half a dose. I m worried about the possible side affects. I m a 46yo female, about 50-60 lbs overweight.

Hello,

Welcome to HCM and thank you for posting your query.
It is important to know whether this is the first time you are started on blood pressure medication and how high the blood pressure was. The doses of both medicines are on the higher side. If you are able to restrict your salt intake and reduce your weight, you may be controlled on a lower dose.
Dizziness, lightheadedness, tiredness, headache and dry cough are the common side effects. Potassium level may go up, if there is any impairment of kidney function. Sometimes people develop a sudden drop in the blood pressure. So it is best to take a small dose like 5 or 10 mg as the first dose and then raise it depending on the blood pressure.
Amlodipine may be added if the BP is not adequately controlled, starting with 5mg and then raising it depending on the need.
Dizziness, lightheadedness, swelling ankles or feet and flushing are the common side effects.
If you want to ask me more queries, you can find me on the HCM web site.
Take Care.
